XBRL US, Inc. is under contract with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to build-out the US GAAP taxonomies. The XBRL US Project Team has expanded the current US GAAP taxonomies, including the primary financial statements and the notes to the financial statements, making them deeper and more robust. The Taxonomies and Preparers Guide are now out for public review and comment at http://usgaap.xbrl.us

Update
- The draft of the XBRL US GAAP Taxonomies was published online for a public review and comment period on December 5 and XBRL US issued a release to make the announcement. The purpose of the public comment period is to allow important stakeholders such as public company preparers, financial analysts, auditors and software providers to review and provide input to the XBRL US Project Team. The Taxonomies are openly available online and are split into five industry groups: commercial and industrial, real estate, banking and saving institutions, insurance and broker/dealer. The SEC issued a release announcing the public review and encouraging participation by preparers, analysts and others. Click here for the XBRL US news release on the kickoff of the Public Review. - To aid in the Public Review process, XBRL US will kick off a series of free workshops that will provide education on XBRL, demonstrate how to create an XBRL instance document and walk participants through the Public Review process. Programs are being conducted jointly with the AICPA, the CFA Institute, Financial Executives International (FEI), the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and with some XBRL US member organizations. - XBRL US initiated its first two podcast interviews, featuring Jeff Diermeier, President and CEO, the CFA Institute, and Barry Melancon, President and CEO, AICPA. Mark Bolgiano, President and CEO, XBRL US, Inc., conducted these first interviews which will be part of an ongoing series that will address key stakeholder viewpoints but will also feature timely and sometimes controversial topics related to the use of interactive data in different reporting situations. - Chairman Christopher Cox spoke on December 3, 2007 at the XBRL International conference held in Vancouver, outlining the importance of the activities around the world in support of XBRL.
- The Securities and Exchange Commission announced the creation of the Office of Interactive Disclosure, headed by David Blaszkowsky, formerly of Standard and Poor’s. The new office is charged with leading the move to the use of interactive data in financial reporting. Click here for more information about the new SEC office.
