XBRL US introduces XBRL Consistency Suite; Set of Online Tools Helps Public Companies improve Data Quality
Developed by XBRL US Labs, XBRL Consistency Suite includes a set of over 6,000 checks that can be run automatically against a company's XBRL-formatted financials to identify inconsistencies and problems related to the use of the US GAAP Taxonomy. The tool identifies problems in an XBRL document such as incorrect signs, missing concepts and concepts used incorrectly. The checks provide a key step in the XBRL creation process, allowing companies to make corrections before submitting their filings. The XBRL Consistency Suite also includes additional tools to help public companies:
Identify best practices among peers on concepts used and extensions created
Leverage pre-created extensions for recent accounting standard changes made after the 2009 release of the XBRL US GAAP TaxonomyThe XBRL Consistency Suite is available to public companies and their service providers by annual subscription. SEC Announces XBRL Mutual Fund Risk/Return Summary Taxonomy Upgrade
SEC staff has completed updates to the technology infrastructure to fully support the submission of Risk/Return Summary information in XBRL. Mutual funds are now able to create and fully test their XBRL documents in preparation for the January 1, 2011 compliance date (see final rule 33-9006). Effective April 12, 2010, the following three items have been updated: the taxonomy, the previewer/viewer and XBRL validation. The SEC staff encourages mutual funds, filing agents, and software vendors to begin the process of tagging their Risk/Return Summary information, submitting test filings to EDGAR to validate their documents, and previewing the documents in the Previewer to help prepare for the January 1, 2011 compliance date. The SEC staff welcomes any questions or comments on these related updates and can be contacted at Ask-OID@sec.gov or (202) 551-4144.
