XBRL Corporate Actions Data Tags Released for Public Review

XBRL US Labs has completed the initial draft of a digital dictionary of corporate actions event information and has made it available for a 60-day public review and comment period. Over 50 types of corporate actions, including mergers, dividends, and stock splits can be tagged using this taxonomy to produce computer-readable documents and structured data that enables straight-through-processing (STP) from issuer to investor. The taxonomy was developed as part of the Issuer-to-Investor: Corporate Actions initiative, a cooperative industry effort sponsored by DTCC, SWIFT and XBRL US Labs. The goal of the program is to improve transparency and communication between issuers and investors, and for greater accuracy, reduced risks and lower costs throughout the system.

Citi to Participate in XBRL US Pilot Program Using XBRL for Corporate Actions

Citi is working with XBRL US Labs to research the costs and benefits of transforming corporate actions processing in a pilot program that will involve dividend payment announcements issued by ADRs (American Depositary Receipts). Experts in corporate actions services at Citi will work with XBRL US Labs and other pilot participants as part of an initiative launched by XBRL US, DTCC, and SWIFT to use XBRL to reduce corporate actions' cost and time, and to improve data quality. The pilot is designed to test the premise that the use of structured, computer-readable data can streamline the process and introduce straight-through-processing (STP). An impact analysis will be conducted on the issuance of XBRL-tagged announcements, processing by banks, depositaries, and stock exchanges, and on the ultimate usability of corporate event data by information consumers, particularly shareholders.
