  About Nashville: The Music City!

Founded in 1779, Nashville – the capital of Tennessee, the Athens of the South, and our nation’s Music City, is your host for the XBRL US National Conference 2011.  Originally established as Fort Nashborough, named after American Revolutionary War hero Francis Nash, Nashville is a vibrant city full of historical sights, southern charm and culture.

So why exactly is it called the Music City?

In 1824, the music publishing industry rooted itself in the heart of the city with the printing of Western Harmony, a book of hymns and instructions for singing…and as they say, it was history from there.  Nashville spent the rest of the 1800s flourishing into our nation’s center for music publishing.  Today, Nashville is most famously known as the home of country music, but if country isn’t your particular taste, you’re in luck!  Nashville is home to an array of musical genres including pop, rock, bluegrass, jazz, classical, blues…the list goes on and on.  To learn more about Nashville’s rich history, please visit the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau.  Walking maps and visitor guides will be provided to all conference attendees on-site.

We truly look forward to seeing you all in Nashville – members and new attendees alike.  This is the single largest educational event on the XBRL US calendar for 2011 and your attendance is highly encouraged!
