This half-day forum provided insights into how structured data can be harnessed to vastly improve the analytical process. Speakers from the Securities and Exchange Commission, the investment community and more discussed how structured data provides the perfect tool to find value in corporate filings.

Thousands of public companies have been reporting their financial data in structured data format since 2009. More and more data providers rely on XBRL data as an efficient, cost-effective means to extract data from public company filings. The quality of structured data has been improving due to actions taken by regulators and by industry. This session will explore these initiatives, such as the use of inline XBRL and the XBRL US Data Quality initiative and their impact on the use of structured data for public company financials. 2:30 – 3:30 PM | Analysis with Smart Data
Standardized data is computer-readable and less expensive to manage, allowing analysts and developers to improve the way they work and perform analysis that is difficult, if not impossible, using traditional datasets. During this session, we’ll examine how XBRL data lets analysts find information not available in traditional databases. You’ll also learn what a fundamental index is, how it differs from traditional price-driven indices and how structured (XBRL) data can streamline the building of fundamental indexes.
