Status: demonstration

To support California legislation, SB 253, the Corporate Climate Accountability Act, XBRL US has created a demonstration taxonomy which is a California-specific entry point to the IFRS Foundation International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) Taxonomy. The State GHG Emissions (SGHG) Taxonomy represents GHG emissions and identification information for use by regulators, citizens, and reporting companies.

While this taxonomy and guide were created for use by organizations complying with regulations set by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to satisfy SB 253, it can be repurposed for use by other states that may introduce similar emissions reporting requirements to minimize reporting burden given the likely overlap between entities subject to multiple state-specific requirements. It is based on the ISSB Taxonomy to reduce the reporting burden on companies tasked with complying to non-US regulators as well. This approach will also ensure the reporting of consistent, interoperable, good quality data, and ensure that reporting burden is minimized.

Notes: Only the GHG emissions data in these reports have been tagged. Some reports may open more slowly due to the graphic-intensive nature of the files.

NOTE: The SGHG Taxonomy was created to help companies comply with regulations set by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to satisfy SB 253. It can be repurposed for use by other states that may introduce similar emissions reporting requirements to minimize reporting burden given the expected overlap between entities subject to multiple state-specific requirements. The SGHG Taxonomy contains concepts to support XBRL tagging of target setting and planned use of carbon credit which are not part of SB 253 but may be required by other state regulators.
