The discussion will include the following:

  • A panel discussion featuring Joe Atkinson, Global Chief AI Officer for the PwC Network of Firms, PwC, and Daniel Vial, Data Scientist, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Office of Data Science. The panel discussion will be moderated by John Turner, CEO XBRL International. Joe Atkinson and Daniel Vial will discuss the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and structured data and the potential that AI has to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of XBRL.
  • An update from the SEC Office of Structured Disclosure staff on data quality of filings and updates on taxonomies maintained by the SEC staff.
  • Overview of the 2025 Taxonomy Releases, including discussion of:
    • Improvements for segment reporting, disaggregation of income statement expenses, and employee benefit plans filing SEC Form 11-K, and the related implementation resources Implementation resources:
      • Proposed Taxonomy Implementation Guide, Segment Reporting (After Adoption of Accounting Standards Update 2023-07)
      • Proposed Taxonomy Implementation Guide, Disaggregation of Income Statement Expenses
      • Taxonomy Implementation Guide, Employee Benefit Plans (Including Defined Contribution Plans Filing SEC Form 11-K).
    • The 2025 DQC Rules Taxonomy and 2025 Meta Model Taxonomy.

Speakers: Joe Atkinson, Global Chief AI Officer for the PwC Network of Firms, PwC United States; John Turner, CEO,  XBRL International; Julie Marlowe, Assistant Director; Audrey Wang, Staff Accountant SEC Office of Structured Disclosure; and Daniel Vial, Data Scientist, SEC Office of Data Science. In addition, members of the FASB staff will provide an update on XBRL activities.
