XBRL US, the national consortium for the business reporting standard, announced today that XBRL US Workshop West, advanced training for public company accountants, will be held on October 1-2, 2015 at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. This event follows the successful XBRL US Workshop Northeast in New York City in May and is part of a series of regional hands-on workshops designed to bring needed training to accountants around the country.
The focus of XBRL US Workshop West will be on learning best practice and correcting common problems in XBRL-formatted financials. Skilled CPAs from the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), XBRL US and top accounting firms, each with many years of XBRL experience, will lead the 1½ day workshop.
Topics covered will include proper use of extensions and how to limit them; identifying and correcting signage problems; calculations; appropriate use of dates; dimensions and tools to ensure appropriate members and axes; and mandatory concepts that must be in every XBRL document. A new session on the cash flow statement and challenges in footnotes has been introduced based on feedback from the previous workshop attendees. Approximately 2/3 of each session will be in-class exercise and solution discussion to ensure that all questions are answered and each topic is covered thoroughly.
“Our goal with the workshop is to give a comprehensive review of each challenge in XBRL reporting so that the accounting professionals who attend walk away with a clear understanding of how to apply best practice, and produce high quality XBRL-formatted financials,” said Campbell Pryde, CEO, XBRL US.
An introductory session will kick off the program on the first day to ensure that all attendees begin the full program with similar skillsets. To learn more and register, go to: http://xbrl.us/workshop-west
