NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Russell G. Golden, Chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) will describe the critical role of data standards in developing useful, actionable accounting standards, during his keynote address at the half-day investor forum, Driving Actionable Analytics, announced XBRL US. The half-day conference takes place on November 4, 2019 in New York City. The FASB establishes financial accounting standards for public and private companies, and not-for-profit organizations that follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); and is recognized by the Securities and Exchange Commission as the designated accounting standard setter for public companies.

The FASB also maintains the US GAAP Financial Reporting Taxonomy. Proposed accounting standards, along with taxonomy updates that are designed to support the proposed standards, are published simultaneously during public exposure periods. This provides issuers with an easier method to understand and provide input to the accounting standard review period.

“Our team is tasked with establishing and improving financial accounting standards that provide investors with better information. To meet this challenge, we use structured data to help inform our standard-setting decisions and ensure new standards are being consistently understood and applied by our stakeholders,” noted FASB Chairman Golden. “This allows us to provide investors with more timely, granular, and understandable information than ever before.”

The annual XBRL US Investor Forum, this year will also feature sessions on evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain, new reporting domains where data standards are being implemented, such as financial reporting by municipal securities and public utilities, the future of quarterly financial reporting, and modernizing regulatory disclosures.
