Other topics will cover issuer to investor dialogue; CPE credit available

WASHINGTON, DC/ October 29 — XBRL US, the nonprofit consortium for XML business reporting, announced that its national conference, “XBRL Financial Reporting: Advancing Transparency, Transforming the Dialogue” to be held on November 17-18, 2009 at the Marriott Marquis in New York City, will include a special educational track called “XBRL Essentials”. This five -session program will be taught by CPAs, professors and accounting professionals who have worked directly on the US GAAP Taxonomy project with XBRL US. Coursework is designed for senior level financial executives at public companies who need an understanding of what their staff must implement to comply with the XBRL reporting mandate from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

“These instructors have an intimate understanding of the framework and structure of the US GAAP Taxonomy,” said Campbell Pryde, Chief Standards Officer, XBRL US, “That knowledge base is critical for public company financial executives who want to be sure they select the right elements to match their financials and produce the highest quality XBRL data.”

  • Tips from the Experts: Assessment of Filings Submitted

The timing of the sessions is designed so that attendees can also hear the keynote speeches at the conference which will be given by senior representatives from the SEC, Financial Executives International (FEI), the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and the CFA Institute Centre for Financial Market Integrity and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC).

XBRL Essentials attendees also have the option to go to panel sessions taking place at the conference. Topics include:

  • In-depth review of the SEC XBRL mandate to date – what’s working, what’s not as observed by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the audit community and financial executives at public companies
  • How XBRL can be used for internal reporting by corporations
  • The impact of XBRL on analysis – expectations from the buy- and sell-side and from public companies on how day-to-day activities and the manner of communication will change with structured financial statements and other public company messages
  • Future developments in XBRL – corporate actions, proxy statements, mortgage-backed securities and more

The conference will be held in association with FEI (Financial Executives International), and will directly follow FEI’s conference, “Current Financial Reporting Issues” which runs November 16-17, 2009.

Company preparers of financial statements (both public and private), investor relations officers, corporate secretaries, the legal community, investors, analysts, software providers and data intermediaries are encouraged to attend the conference.
