XBRL US announced that they will present a 1 ½ day conference, GovFin 2024: Municipal Reporting Workshop, on Monday and Tuesday, July 29-30, 2024. The workshop aims to address the implications of the Financial Data Transparency Act (FDTA) on municipal bond market stakeholders, from government bond issuers to portfolio managers and analysts to regulators. The conference will be hosted by PwC at their offices at 300 Madison Avenue in New York, NY.
Sessions will include:
- Issuer panels covering large and small governments, general purpose and special district governments, to gauge the unique challenges of each type of government, from staffing and resources, to the complexity of reporting
- Professional services panel addressing the role of accountants and lawyers in supporting municipal bond issuance reporting
- Regulators and standards organizations that will be tasked with implementing the roll-out of data standards for government
- Taxonomy standards development as called for in the FDTA, how regulators build, support and provide ongoing development for taxonomies
- Investors and portfolio managers as a key audience for municipal bond issuer data
- Facilitated, hands-on discussion sessions with attendees to collect feedback on the potential implementation.
“The complexity and size of the municipal marketplace, estimated at $4 trillion dollars, makes this portion of the FDTA especially important and challenging,” said Campbell Pryde, CEO of XBRL US, “This legislation is a critical opportunity for municipal governments. Our conference is designed to help the market understand the needs of all stakeholders, so that everyone from the smallest issuer to the largest investment firm, can benefit.”
Attendees will participate in breakout sessions on managing the sometimes competing priorities of municipal market participants, and on how regulators and standards organizations can build data standards that can efficiently and effectively support the market. Feedback from attendees and panelists will be incorporated into a key findings paper after the conference.
