Contest seeks open source applications to analyze corporate financial data

What: Every publicly traded U.S. company is now required to tag financial data according to a XML-based business reporting standard known as eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). The XBRL Challenge is a contest designed to spark innovative ideas for analytical applications that consume XBRL financial statement data. The Challenge provides a unique opportunity to get educated on XBRL, a technology standard that’s coming into widespread use and includes a grand prize of $20,000 for the individual, team, or company who creates the most inventive and useful application to leverage XBRL data.

Anyone interested in becoming a contestant may attend the webinar to learn more about:

  • The XBRL Challenge requirements and deadlines
  • XBRL technical specifications and requirements
  • Resources available to developers for the contest
  • How to interact with XBRL US and other entrants
