XBRL US and three organizations in the surety industry – GALLINA LLP, Liberty Mutual and the National Association of Surety Bond Producers (NASBP) – announced today the launch of a pilot program to evaluate how structured data can streamline surety underwriting data processing to reduce costs and increase timeliness and consistency.
Since early October, Calcbench has been incorporating non-interactive data in the form of ‘Earnings Press Releases’ into its platform. Research on data reported in 10-Ks filed by 498 public companies (roughly representing the S&P 500) demonstrates a significant amount of duplication. 54% of facts reported had been reported already in previous filings. XBRL US announced today that the XBRL US Data Quality Committee has approved and published the first set of validation rules to help public companies detect inconsistencies or errors in their XBRL-formatted financial data. The rules cover approximately 2,400 concepts and identify potential errors such as incorrect negative or positive values, improper relationships between elements, and incorrect dates associated with certain data.
SEC Commissioner Piwowar expressed support for inline XBRL to “improve the accuracy of structured data, ease burdens on issuers, and facilitate easier review” at FEI’s CFRI Conference, November 17, 2015.
