XBRL US submitted a comment letter to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in response to its SEC Draft Strategic Plan FY 26-30. The Strategic Plan outlined three goals:

  • Renew our regulatory policy focus to support innovation, capital formation, market efficiency, and investor protection
  • Shift our regulatory practices to increase stakeholder engagement, facilitate compliance efforts of market participants, and effectively return our enforcement approach to Congress’ original intent
  • Optimize our operational efficiency by enhancing our organizational structure, modernizing our technology, reforming employee performance management, and implementing robust internal performance reporting that incorporates accountability for resources and program success

XBRL US and the XBRL standard support the SEC goals by:

  • Rendering data machine-readable, more transparent, interoperable, consistent, and comparable; able to optimize and improve the efficiency of AI tools, keeping the cost of analysis low
  • Collaborating with SEC staff through XBRL US member groups such as the Data Quality Committee and the Regulatory Modernization Working Group

Our letter commends the SEC for its willingness to collaborate with industry through our working groups and for its vision and foresight in initiating XBRL data collection in 2009 resulting in a vast historical pool of structured, AI-ready company data today.
